School Teaches Reading, Writing and Robbery

The local ABC channel here in South Florida did a report about my school. I wanted to share it with you and give you my feed back on this issue. First, watch the video.

News Reporters really need to get a LIFE! This news report was such a non-issue. The story he was referring to was distributed to one class and one class only for homework. The teacher who sent it home was hoping to get more parent involvement. Well, she got it.! Most parents were not aware of the story. The school did everything they could to fix the situation. But I guess it was not enough! Some parent reported this story to Channel 10. The news reporter makes it sound as if we are teaching our students about robbery. The statement is so out in left field. The story was mixed in with a variety of other stories. The teacher who sent it out made a mistake. She never thought it would go this far. It is amazing to see how a little oversight can be completely taken out of context. I know that teachers are public people but why not broadcast some of our achievements and not every little mistakes we make!

I have one last comment- I would like to see that reporter come into my classroom for the week. I would like him to see how it feels to put your blood, sweat, and love into these students and get so little gratitude in return! How would he feel after all that to be belittled on television? He wouldn’t make it one day in my opinion!
